Hoffenheim is releasing Tim Drexler once again, loaning its homegrown player to 1. FC Nuremberg. The talented defender had already gained match practice and experience in the 2. Bundesliga with the Franconians in the second half of last season, scoring one goal in 14 matches for the club. Reportedly, a loan fee of €200,000 is due; FCN has not secured a purchase option.
According to information from kicker, other second-division clubs besides Dynamo Dresden were also interested in the defender, and clubs from abroad had also expressed interest. A move to Dresden, in particular, had long been on the cards, but ultimately Drexler opted to return to his familiar surroundings in Nuremberg, where his former Hoffenheim teammate Finn Ole Becker has also been playing since last week.

TSG coach Christian Ilzer had already gotten a good idea of the defender, who can play both inside and on the right, during preseason, and whose playing opportunities had actually increased significantly after rival Valentin Gendrey broke his ankle. However, the management clearly didn't yet trust Drexler's suitability for the Bundesliga and immediately signed another right-back, veteran Vladimir Coufal .
Drexler is under contract with Hoffenheim until 2028. The Bruchsal native joined the youth academy in 2016, and the current U-20 international has also represented almost all of the German national team's youth teams. Now he's set to spend another season in Nuremberg and the 2. Bundesliga.
Next TSG loanSince Drexler is not yet 21 and is also a local player for TSG, he will not place any additional strain on the Kraichgau club's loan quota. According to the current statutes, clubs are permitted to loan or loan six players nationally and internationally (a maximum of three to and from one club).
Hoffenheim has already loaned six players domestically: Stanley Nsoki (Union Berlin), Haris Tabakovic (Gladbach), Erencan Yardimci (Braunschweig), Nahuel Noll (Hannover), Bambasé Conté (Elversberg), and Florian Micheler (Bielelfeld). However, like Drexler, Micheler is an exception, meaning TSG still has one loan spot available. The Kraichgau club has so far loaned two players abroad: Attila Szalai (Kasimpasa) and Gift Orban (Hellas Verona).
