DFB makes embarrassing mistake in obituary for Frank Mill

DFB obituary blunder: In memory of Frank Mill, his hometown club, Rot-Weiss Essen, is omitted. Fans reacted outraged, and the association and CEO Rettig apologized publicly and personally.
The German Football Association (DFB) has drawn fierce criticism from Rot-Weiss Essen fans with its obituary for the late World Cup winner Frank Mill (†67). In the obituary, which appeared in regional newspapers, the DFB honored Mill's successes with Borussia Mönchengladbach, Borussia Dortmund, and Fortuna Düsseldorf – but omitted any mention of his hometown club, RWE.
Mill began his professional career there, storming through the second division from 1976 onward and crowning himself top scorer in 1980/81 with 40 goals in 38 games. Fans reacted outraged online, calling it a "shameful" oversight.
What's interesting is that DFB Managing Director Andreas Rettig is himself an avowed RWE fan. The association admitted the mistake and publicly apologized, and Rettig also personally addressed the club's management.
