The CDU will officially nominate Schulze as its top candidate.

The CDU in Saxony-Anhalt is putting its faith in Sven Schulze for the 2026 state elections. However, there is internal strife: only three women are slated for top positions on the party list.
The CDU in Saxony-Anhalt will finalize its state list for next year's state elections on Saturday. Delegates intend to officially nominate state party chairman and Minister of Economic Affairs Sven Schulze as their lead candidate, following his nomination by Minister-President Reiner Haseloff and the state executive committee.
Haseloff will not run again as the CDU's lead candidate in the state elections in September 2026. The procedure for compiling the party list had drawn criticism prior to the state delegates' assembly. Of the first 20 places, only three are to go to women.
The CDU currently holds 40 seats in the Saxony-Anhalt state parliament. CDU state chairman Schulze has set the goal of winning all 41 constituencies in the election on September 6, 2026. However, in two recent polls, the AfD was significantly ahead of the Christian Democrats.
