At the elite American university Harvard, thousands of students and cutting-edge researchers are facing a major challenge: Political actors are exerting increasing influence over universities. They are, for example, making financial support conditional on the rejection of gender issues, or demanding figures and information on international students. In addition, US President Donald Trump is currently working to dismantle the US Department of Education . These developments are increasing uncertainty at American universities and posing new challenges to the international academic landscape.
