Migration policy of the Merz government: Left Party wants to consider legal action against rejections

Migration policy of the Merz government: Left Party wants to consider legal action against rejections

Friedrich Merz has announced that he will order pushbacks at German borders on the first day of his chancellorship. Left Party leader Jan van Aken intends to consider legal action against this.

Left Party leader Jan van Aken has announced that he will take legal action against the new federal government's migration policy. "If the border rejections demanded by Merz are implemented, we will examine whether we can file a lawsuit," van Aken told FOCUS.

"Friedrich Merz keeps trying to pursue AfD policies. His demands, which would violate the European Refugee Convention and human rights, are particularly despicable," van Aken continued. The rejections announced by CDU leader Friedrich Merz are "inhumane and illegal." Van Aken added: "Germany has a responsibility, especially because of its past, to respect these rights."

Merz, who will run for chancellor next Tuesday, already announced during his election campaign that he would order rejections at the borders on his first day in office. Federal Interior Minister-designate Alexander Dobrindt (CSU) announced on Monday: "We will ensure that rejections at the borders increase significantly. We will suspend family reunification, and we will repatriate refugees, including to countries like Syria and Afghanistan."
