GdP criticizes SPD initiative on civil servants in pension insurance

The German Police Union (GdP) has warned the new SPD leadership against including officers in the statutory pension insurance system. "The SPD would be well advised to provide better support to police officers and not take away their pensions," GdP head Jochen Kopelke told the RedaktionsNetzwerk Deutschland (RND).
"Police officers work hard shifts for decades, protecting people in dangerous situations, and often forgo weekends and family time," Kopelke said. After more than 40 years of service, they are entitled to a good pension.
In her candidacy speech for the SPD's position at the party conference, Labor Minister Bärbel Bas reiterated her proposal to include civil servants in the pension insurance system. Co-leader and Finance Minister Lars Klingbeil pledged her support.
