A Russian airstrike in Ukraine kills 16 prison inmates and injures many more. Numerous buildings are destroyed, and the surrounding area is severely damaged.

According to Ukrainian authorities, at least 16 prisoners were killed and 35 others injured in a Russian airstrike in a prison near Zaporizhia. Military Governor Ivan Fedorov reported on Telegram that the region around the frontline city in southern Ukraine was attacked several times overnight, presumably by glide bombs.

Both prison buildings and neighboring private buildings were affected, suffering significant damage. The injured are receiving medical assistance. The exact location of the incident remained secret. Glide bombs dropped by Russian fighter jets from Russian-controlled territory near the front line hit Ukrainian areas without warning, as the aircraft operate outside the range of Ukraine 's air defenses.
