Several dead after flash flood in Texas
According to authorities, several children who attended a summer camp near the Guadalupe River are still missing. Texas Lieutenant Governor Dan Patrick said the Guadalupe River rose eight meters in just 45 minutes the night before.
The Kerr County Sheriff had previously reported 13 deaths. The dead included both adults and children.
Some bodies were found in cars washed away by the floodwaters. Around 500 rescue workers and 14 helicopters were deployed, supported by the Texas National Guard and the U.S. Coast Guard. Freeman Martin, director of the Texas Department of Public Safety, warned of another wave of flooding. County Executive Rob Kelly spoke of extremely devastating and deadly flooding. Texas Governor Greg Abbott pledged the support of all available forces. In mid-June, at least ten people were killed in a flash flood in San Antonio, southeast of Kerr.
