Kelly Clarkson Cancels First Night of Las Vegas Residency Hours Before
What doesn’t kill Kelly Clarkson makes her stronger.
Just hours before she planned to kick off her Studio Sessions residency at Las Vegas’ Colosseum Theater at Caesars Palace July 4, the “Since U Been Gone” singer postponed her first two shows.
“We have been working 24/7 to make Studio Sessions the most intimate and extraordinary experience with and for my incredible fans,” Kelly wrote in a statement shared to Instagram July 4. “I am beyond grateful that you always show up for me and I am devastated to have to postpone tonight and tomorrow’s opening at Caesars.”
As for why the American Idol alum—who shares kids River, 11, and Remington “Remy” Alexander, 9, with ex-husband Brandon Blackstock—had to cancel the shows so last minute? Well, it seemed she was experiencing some vocal strain.
“The prep and rehearsals have taken a toll on my voice,” the statement continued. “I want the shows to be perfect for y’all and I need to protect myself from doing serious damage so I am taking this weekend and next week to rest up so that we can deliver what you all deserve. The show is truly incredible.”
But after a small bump in the road, the 43-year-old plans to be back and better than ever.
“The musicians and singers are outstanding, and I want us all to start out strong,” she concluded. “I can’t wait to be back next weekend and show y’all what we’ve been working on.”
After all, Kelly has kept her voice warm while nailing countless covers during the “Kellyoke” segment of her Emmy-winning talk show, The Kelly Clarkson Show. And recently, it’s become a family affair.
"My daughter is here today," Kelly said during an April 2 episode of her eponymous show, noting her eldest was shadowing showrunner Alex Duda for the day. "Oh my God! You have a mic and everything! You're so fancy! Oh my God. I love it. You're like a little mini producer."
But while River had no problems immersing herself in the world of show business, Kelly admitted that it’s been quite difficult to keep up with her kids’ school events because of her weekday work schedule.
“Why do schools have things in the middle of the f--king day?” she lamented to Kylie Kelce during a March episode of Not Gonna Lie podcast. “They’re like, ‘Oh your daughter has a performance,’ and I’m like ‘Cool, I get to be the a--hole because you decided that it would be a real opportune moment at 10 a.m. on a Thursday—when we’re out here hustling.’”
“‘Do you think I just leave and sit in the park all day?’” she quipped, mimicking what she asks her kids. “Mommy does work, that’s okay. Women and men work, it’s okay.”
