Ikea balcony power plant: What can the new DIY solar system do?
Together with the Swedish energy company Svea Solar, Ikea now also offers balcony power plants. Thanks to self-generated solar power, users are supposed to become less dependent on energy price fluctuations. And, in true IKEA style, they're a DIY installation. Here's what the kits cost and what they can do.
The Ikea Balcony Power Station has been officially available in Germany since June 24, 2025. With this new offering, Ikea is entering the market for plug-in solar solutions – in cooperation with the Swedish company Svea Solar and the manufacturer EcoFlow.
This is IKEA's response to the growing demand for simple, affordable options for private electricity generation. The products are available directly from the IKEA online shop and are aimed primarily at tenants and homeowners who want to generate their own solar power – without large rooftop systems or complex installation.
The Ikea balcony power station is available starting at €449 (as of June 2025). The basic package includes two solar panels and a microinverter. In Germany, registration is mandatory, but only once, with the Federal Network Agency's Market Data Register (MaStR). Registration serves to transparently record all decentralized power plants, supports grid stability, and incurs no costs.
