Almost 20 years after the release of the original, the announced sequel to "The Devil Wears Prada" is going into production.
The time has come: "The Devil Wears Prada 2" is entering production. 20th Century Studios announced this on their official Instagram page with a clip of the iconic red high heels with the heel of a trident.
According to Variety, the well-known cast, including Emily Blunt (42), Anne Hathaway (42), Meryl Streep (76), and Stanley Tucci (64), will remain. In the 2006 cult film, Streep played the demanding editor-in-chief of the fashion magazine "Runway," Hathaway played the wallflower intern Andy Sachs, and Blunt played the scheming assistant Emily. According to the industry magazine, Kenneth Branagh (64) will join the cast as the husband of editor-in-chief Miranda.
This is what the sequel is aboutPlot details for the sequel have not been confirmed, but reports suggest editor-in-chief Miranda Priestly will have to navigate the decline of the traditional magazine world. She'll likely have to ingratiate herself with her former assistant Emily, now an executive at a luxury conglomerate. Emily could help her former boss out of a jam with advertising. It's unclear what role Anne Hathaway's Andy will play.
The theatrical release of the second installment of the fashion satire "The Devil Wears Prada" is scheduled for May 1, 2026. Runway editor-in-chief Miranda Priestly is based on Vogue editor-in-chief Anna Wintour (75). The film is based on a book of the same name by Lauren Weisberger (48), who worked as Wintour's personal assistant.
Just a few days ago, it was announced that Anna Wintour would be stepping down from her position as editor-in-chief of American "Vogue" after 37 years. However, she will not retire; instead, she will retain her position as Global Chief Content Officer at Condé Nast and will also remain Global Editorial Director of "Vogue."
