Wadephul in New Delhi - China and Russia in the center

NEW DELHI (dpa-AFX) - Foreign Minister Johann Wadephul continues his visit to India this Wednesday with political talks in the capital, New Delhi. Given US President Donald Trump's aggressive trade and tariff policies, the talks are likely to focus not only on prospects for closer economic cooperation but also on the relationship between India, the most populous democracy with a population of over 1.4 billion, and China and Russia.
Indian President Narendra Modi recently demonstrated his closeness to Kremlin leader Vladimir Putin and Chinese President Xi Jinping at the Shanghai Cooperation Organization meeting in the Chinese port city of Tianjin. Wadephul intends to remain undeterred and advocate for expanding cooperation between Germany and Europe with India in the areas of economics, security, and defense.
Ministerial meeting and a hockey training session
The Federal Foreign Minister plans to meet with the Minister of Commerce and Industry, Shri Piyush Goya, and his counterpart, Subrahmanyam Jaishankar. A visit to a school where German is taught and whose student team participates in national hockey competitions is also planned. Wadephul will be accompanied by former German national hockey player and Olympic champion Moritz Fürste, who will participate in a student training session. The minister is also expected to pick up a hockey stick./bk/dg/DP/jha
