USA and Europe: The tariff dispute is now only about damage limitation
The EU must reach a deal with Trump by July 9. And ally itself with countries around the world to save free trade.
This Monday, Donald Trump plans to send out several letters. He has already signed twelve, the US President announced over the weekend. Twelve letters to twelve countries, which will now know in black and white what tariff rates Trump is demanding on goods imported into the US from their respective countries. Trump initially declined to say which trading partners are included in the twelve. The only thing that is certain is that the European Union is not among them. Anything else would have been a surprise.
