Thorsten Frei (CDU): "We will continue to reject refugees in the future" / Head of the Chancellery defends new border policy - "We must not limit our own actions"

Osnabrück (ots) – Despite criticism of the measures, the German government intends to continue turning away asylum seekers at the German border until further notice. Chancellor's Office Chief Thorsten Frei (CDU) told the "Neue Osnabrücker Zeitung" (NOZ): "We will continue to turn away asylum seekers in the future." The government should not "limit its own actions just because there are different legal opinions." He continues to assume that rejections are permissible. Frei does not consider the decision of a Berlin administrative court, which declared the rejection of three Somalis inadmissible, to be groundbreaking. "The fact is that administrative court decisions are not valid across Germany, but only concern the specific individual case. This cannot automatically become a guideline for our entire policy."
Frei also emphasized his "absolute desire to maintain" the free borders. "For us, it is clear that internal border controls are only a transitional phase – towards more effective European external border protection. We only want to continue controls at our borders for as long as necessary," Frei said in an interview with NOZ.
