|The German chemical company allegedly sourced titanium oxide from the Chinese region of Xinjiang. A new report now suggests human rights violations in the supply chain. BASF is temporarily suspending deliveries.
For a few months, it appeared as if BASF had cleared itself of the serious allegations by selling its shares in two joint ventures in the Chinese region of Xinjiang . There were repeated reports of state re-education camps for the Muslim Uyghur minority, forced labor , and other forms of oppression by China – including in factories with German participation. A report by the human rights organization Global Rights Compliance (GRC) now shows that BASF has not severed all ties to the region. According to the report, BASF sourced titanium dioxide from the region, which is used in the production of coatings. Confronted with the NGO's allegations, the DAX-listed company confirmed the deliveries in a letter to GRC.
