Ice cream: Ben without Jerry

Reading time: 2 min.
|The hippie dream of ice cream making the world a better place, born in the 1980s, seems to be over. Jerry Greenfield has left Ben & Jerry's. Meanwhile, the parent company, Unilever, is planning an IPO.
It's actually been brewing for years—the most tragic split since Bill and Melinda Gates. As of this Wednesday, Jerry Greenfield, who gave his first name to the popular ice cream brand Ben & Jerry's, is no longer part of the company. His partner, Ben Cohen, shared a letter Greenfield had previously written on X. It states that Greenfield can "no longer in good conscience" work for a company that is being "silenced" by its parent company, Unilever . The realization that Cohen and Greenfield could no longer pursue their social mission independently of the corporation has deeply disappointed him.
