CSU wants deportations to Syria - contradiction to Wadephul

Berlin/Munich – Leading CSU politicians are demanding that Foreign Minister Johann Wadephul (CDU) adhere to the agreement in the coalition agreement and pave the way for deportations to Syria. CSU parliamentary group leader Alexander Hoffmann told the "Bild am Sonntag": "It is absolutely necessary and right that the Federal Interior Minister develops agreements with Syria so that, as a first step, criminals and potential threats can be returned to their country of origin. I assume that the Federal Government will jointly pursue this goal, which we enshrined in the coalition agreement." CSU General Secretary Martin Huber stated to the same newspaper: "The civil war in Syria has finally ended; that is cause for optimism. Germany has taken in and protected many millions of Syrians. After the end of the civil war, people without grounds for asylum must return to their homeland. Now it is essential to stabilize the country and repair infrastructure such as housing. Who, if not the people of Syria, will rebuild Syria? A return strategy for Syrians is needed. It is also clear: criminals and people without grounds for asylum must be returned to Syria." Those with tolerated stay status must be deported to Syria; we are working on this with great urgency.” Foreign Minister Wadephul had previously, during a visit to Syria, opposed the rapid return of Syrian refugees from Germany to their homeland. “They cannot return in the short term,” he said.
