Speechless ultramodern: The 15th UFA Film Nights show great works of the pre-talkie era

The three-day, compact mini-festival attempts an exciting balancing act: Based on 100-year-old silent films, something completely new is generated
As a result of the rapid development of media, it's becoming increasingly difficult to sensitize the public to complex cultural and historical contexts. Silent film —what is it? Black-and-white, often fidgeting images of wildly gesticulating or languidly suffering, heavily made-up people who, for some reason, can't speak? And then you have to keep reading in between to be able to follow the plot at all? Why should you put yourself through that? And all of this without a fast-forward button, crammed in among countless other people who are in the same situation!
