State governors’ say in ORF falls

The right of state governors to be heard in the appointment of ORF regional directors will be abolished. There is a fundamental agreement on this among the governing factions, NEOS media spokesperson Henrike Brandstötter reported to APA. The measure could be passed as early as September, after the National Council's summer recess. Changes are also planned for the ORF household fee for companies.
For Brandstötter, the abolition of the state governors' right to be heard is "a long overdue systemic break – and a great success for an independent ORF." The measure strengthens independence and is a "massive step toward a politically distant ORF." However, this step should not be the end of it: "Making the ORF less politically involved is not a sprint, but a reform marathon – and we are determined to continue," said Brandstötter.
A further agreement was also reached regarding the ORF household tax: Business owners with multiple branches will no longer have to pay the household tax multiple times in the future. "That was not only unfair, but simply excessive – and is now history," Brandstötter commented on the further agreement.
