Senior hits mother and child with car in Berlin: Two-year-old dies

A two-year-old boy died in a traffic accident in Berlin -Friedrichsfelde on Monday morning. An 84-year-old man was driving his Ford on Einbecker Straße around 10 a.m. and, according to witnesses, was driving excessively fast, police said. At the corner of Lincolnstraße, he struck a 29-year-old mother and her son in a stroller at a pedestrian crossing. Both were taken to the hospital and underwent emergency surgery.
The mother survived with serious injuries, but her young son died shortly afterwards. The driver was uninjured. Police had to close the road while they investigated the accident. A police department has taken over the investigation.
