Damian Lillard will play for the Portland Trail Blazers again in the future – and has a clause in his contract that only LeBron James otherwise has. However, it remains to be seen when he will play for his former team.
NBA pro Damian Lillard is returning to the Portland Trail Blazers, and after a turbulent few weeks, his dream is coming true. The 35-year-old basketball player played for the team for eleven years before joining the Milwaukee Bucks two years ago to play alongside Giannis Antetokounmpo. However, the Bucks pulled the plug a few weeks ago and released Lillard, who tore his Achilles tendon in April and could miss the entire upcoming season. Lillard posted a video from the Trail Blazers' locker room, showing his name tag above a locker.
Lillard's desire to spend a significant portion of his rehab in Portland with his family was reportedly a factor in the Bucks' decision. The split caused considerable surprise within the NBA , as the Bucks still have to pay the pro $ 113 million in salary over the next five years. However, by shifting the financial obligations, Milwaukee was able to sign Myles Turner.
According to media reports, Lillard will sign a three-year contract worth $42 million in Portland. He is also said to be the only player, other than LeBron James of the Los Angeles Lakers, to have a clause in his contract that prohibits a transfer without his consent. This is extremely rare in American sports. Lillard is the Trail Blazers' all-time leading scorer (19,376) and the only player to score at least 70 points in a game.
