Media for Europe is owned by the children of former Italian Prime Minister Silvio Berlusconi, who died in 2023. The group aims to build a pan-European broadcasting group. There are no antitrust hurdles in Germany. The takeover was submitted to the European Commission for review in 2023 and to the Federal Competition Authority in 2024. At that time, the Berlusconis had exceeded the 25 percent threshold.

ProSiebenSat.1 is the second largest private television company in Germany, alongside the RTL family. In addition to traditional channels such as ProSieben, Sat.1, and Kabel Eins, the group also includes the streaming provider Joyn. Well-known formats include the shows "Germany's Next Top Model," "Joko & Klaas vs. ProSieben," "The Voice of Germany," and "Rosins Restaurants," as well as the comedy series "Jerks."
