Major fire brigade operation: Forest fire near Zerbst contained - Federal highway reopened

A forest fire in the Zerbst district of Jütrichau (Anhalt-Bitterfeld district) continues to keep firefighters busy. The fire has been contained, but embers continue to flare up, according to a spokeswoman for the Dessau-Roßlau police station. Federal Highway 184 has now been reopened. Motorists are advised to drive with caution, however, as firefighting operations are still ongoing and may have disturbed wildlife.

According to reports, the fire broke out on Saturday afternoon, and by late evening the flames were almost extinguished. The railway line between Dessau and Magdeburg was temporarily closed. According to Deputy District Fire Chief Andreas Hafermalz, around 150 emergency personnel and a federal police helicopter were on scene that evening. The cause of the fire is still unclear.
