Bomb found: Evacuation planned due to bomb in Saalekreis

Following the discovery of a bomb in Braunsbedra (Saalekreis), authorities are preparing an evacuation . Residents and neighbors in many areas of the Neumark district must leave the danger zone starting at 8:00 a.m. The closure is expected to last until 4:00 p.m., according to the Saalekreis website.

The five-hundred-pound American bomb with a rear fuse was discovered during construction work in the Neumark district. A 750-meter exclusion zone was subsequently established. Specialists are scheduled to defuse the bomb on site on Tuesday.

A kindergarten within the restricted area will remain closed. Affected residents can stay in a sports hall in the city.
